They released two albums that were moderately successful, and had two tours of the United States. The first US tour in June 1964 was, in Bill Wyman’s words, “a disaster”. The second was slightly more successful.
Their first international number 1 hit was “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction”, recorded in May 1965 during the band’s third North American tour. It spent four weeks at the top of the charts there, and established the Stones as a worldwide premier act.
The Rolling Stones continued to pump out an amazing number of hits. They produced over 30 albums, and as a result of their worldwide success, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. They were also ranked fourth place in Rolling Stone Magazine’s top 100 artists of all time. Their latest album, A Bigger Bang, was released in 2005.
The success of the Rolling Stones over the years has been is a result of the passion and love for what they do. This is why they have been able to create music that has been enjoyed for more than forty years. It is an extraordinary achievement that other bands and musicians could only wish for. While there have been a few that were successful in having a lifetime career in music, there are few bands that have managed to entertain so well for so long.
